Agenda (ARTIST STATEMENT)

My art practice has revolved largely around the self and story-telling has always been one of its fundamental features; mythology reinforces the idea of a single humanity and can be used to unveil universal truths that are common to all, providing roadmaps in the face of adversity and confusion. Currently working in a mixed media language, I create images using both personal and archetypal symbols to depict psychological and emotional states. The medium of collage facilitates flexibility and immediacy, allowing the juxtaposition of different influences, ranging from art history and mythology to science fiction and chaos theory. Borrowing imagery from numerous sources and drawing on both semantic and personal memory, the works seek to have a universal appeal that transcends cultural identity and divides.
